In 2005, following Michael's transfer within the Public Service the Thompson family picked up stumps and moved to Canberra from Rockhampton in Central Queensland
A passionate photography hobby took an eventful turn when in 2010 Michael was asked to photograph his sons rugby team. A fledgling business was born the following year as one team turned into photos for the whole club. Word quickly spread that there was a new player in town and MTPhoto expanded each year with more and more sporting clubs and schools chose to partner with MTPhoto for their annual team photos.
The business continued to rapidly expand as a part time enterprise until it was no longer possible to work full time and run a business. First Janeane (2015) and then Michael (2017) left the security of stable jobs to enter into full time self employment.
Today, Michael Thompson Photography currently partners with over 50 Sport Clubs and Schools within the Canberra region for their annual photos.
Michael leads our passionate and
dedicated team of photographers to capture the most amazing team and
individual player portraits we can.
After
a diverse working career that included manual labouring positions,
factory hand, meat worker, insurance agent, loans officer and public
servant Michael has finally found his niche in the Photography Industry.
As
a Director of the company, Michaels management roles in the Public
Service have provided an excellent platform in ensuring MTPhoto not only
produce the best team and player photos around, but that the business
itself is strong and will last the distance.

schools and businesses can be confident in the knowledge they are
dealing with a professional and competent organisation in MTPhoto.
Heading up our administration team, Janeane is the face of MTPhoto and the principle point of contact for clubs and schools.
With
up to 8 staff present on any given photo day, Janeane's experience in
business, including management of Subway and Muffin Break franchises,
ensures the operation is run smoothly and on schedule on even the
busiest of days.
